Bruno Rixen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bruno Rixen (born July 3, 1931 in Kiel ) is a German engineer , inventor and entrepreneur. He developed the prototype of the water ski lift and made it ready for the market. The German Waterskiing and Wakeboarding Association explains: "... without this man the wakeboard sport would never have become what it is today".

Life

Bruno Rixen grew up in a business household in Groß Buchwald . He went to school there and finished his school years with secondary school leaving certificate. From 1950 to 1953 Rixen completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic . The following year he began studying mechanical engineering , which he successfully completed in 1958. After completing his studies, he built the first water ski cableway on the Bordesholmer See in 1959 to enable himself to water ski. In 1961, Rixen founded his own company and worked on his idea of a simultaneous and continuous water ski lift. Rixen came up with the idea of not placing the starting skier under the circulating rope, as usual, but rather at the full length of the tow line away from the rope. This invention is the basis of every water ski cableway to this day. After two years of trials with a prototype in Hamburg and two more years with a larger prototype cable car on the Baltic Sea , the first water ski cable car to Benidorm in Spain was sold in 1966 . In the meantime, Rixen has applied for patents for 37 inventions.
