Bruno Salzer

Bruno Sälzer (born June 28, 1957 in Bad Rappenau ) is a German manager . From 2002 to 2018 he was successively CEO of the fashion companies Hugo Boss , Escada and Bench .

Life

Sälzer is the son of a farmer and has two siblings. From 1976 he studied business administration at the University of Mannheim and graduated in 1981 with a degree in business administration . From 1981 to 1985 he was a research assistant at the Dean's Office of the Mannheim Faculty for Business Administration. In 1985 he received his doctorate in economics and social sciences (Dr. rer. Pol.) In Mannheim .

From 1986 to 1991 Sälzer worked at Beiersdorf AG in Hamburg, initially as head of marketing and sales management training and finally as head of international sales coordination. From 1991 to 1995 he worked at Hans Schwarzkopf GmbH in Hamburg, initially as department head of the German hairdressing business and finally as division manager for the international hairdressing business.

In 1995, Sälzer was appointed to the board of directors of Hugo Boss AG in Metzingen in the areas of sales and marketing , he became deputy chairman in 1998 and chairman in 2002. Under his leadership, Hugo Boss launched a women's collection for the first time. Sälzer is credited with expanding the Swabian suit manufacturer into an internationally operating fashion group with billions in sales during his tenure, and ultimately doubling the company's pre-tax profit and quintupling its share price. In February 2008 he had to vacate his post under pressure from the then new boss owner, Permira .

From mid-2008 Sälzer was CEO of Escada SE in Munich. In August 2009 Escada had to file for bankruptcy. Together with his wife, Sälzer had bought Escada shares worth around three million euros from the Russian Escada major shareholder Rustam Aksenenko in July 2008, which were only worth a fraction of them after the bankruptcy of the Munich fashion brand. Salzer's contract with Escada expired in February 2014.

Following his work at Escada, Sälzer turned down offers from Benetton , among others . From December 2014 he acted as chairman and managing director of the streetwear brand Bench Limited, which was bought by the Munich-based subsidiary Emeram Capital Partners in February 2014 . Part of his employment contract was a private participation of 15% of the Bench shares by Sälzer. In March 2018 he gave up his post at Bench in Munich, but kept his company shares. Bench went bankrupt in April 2018.

In addition, Sälzer was on the supervisory board of Beiersdorf AG, Hamburg, from 2004 to 2006 , and of Maxingvest AG , Hamburg, from 2006 to 2008 . He has been with Amer Sports Corp. since 2008 . in Helsinki and at Deichmann SE in Essen as a member of the supervisory board, since 2013 at Lacoste Holding, Paris. In March 2017 he was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Amer Sports Corp., Helsinki. In May 2018, Sälzer took over a supervisory board mandate at Ludwig Beck in Munich.

Sälzer is the father of four sons and lives with his family in Grünwald . He is a fan of VfB Stuttgart and a black belt in karate .
