Brut is a German feature film by the director Constantin Hatz . It premiered on October 27, 2017 in the competition at the 51st Hof International Film Festival 2017.

action

For the budding medical student Marie, the disaster begins every morning when she gets up. She lives in social isolation with her strictly dominant mother, a successful gynecologist . Marie has suffered from emotional blackmail from her mother all her life, and it is almost as if the umbilical cord has never been cut. Marie would like to finally break away from this addiction and for the first time seeks sexual contact with men in order to force her mother into resignation.

production

The film is a co-production between the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and DOMAR Film. The shooting took place in Karlsruhe in summer 2016 .

criticism

Philipp Bovermann from the Süddeutsche Zeitung called the film “a highly intelligent, little monster of a film that creates a system of gestures of submission and symbolic rebellion between a mother and a daughter”. On kino-zeit.de, Harald Mühlbeyer praised the acting performances of Luise Aschenbrenner and Anja Schneider as well as the production: “Strict, clean, sterile - like the apartment, so the production. But also radical, direct, nerve-wracking. Constantin Hatz digs very deep. "
