Brygada Kryzys - is a Polish rock band that in 1981 in Warsaw was founded.

History and work

Brygada Kryzys is one of the most important Polish new wave rock bands, founded in 1981 by guitarist and singer Tomasz Lipiński (born 1955) and Robert Brylewski (1961–2018), both leading figures in the nascent Polish punk rock scene. Lipiński mostly wrote the lyrics and Brylewski did the composition. Other band members were the bassist Ireneusz Wereński, the drummers Sławek Słociński and Jarek Ptasiński and the saxophonist Tomasz (Men) Świtalski. The first planned concerts were canceled because the concert organizers considered the program to be too politically daring. The first public appearance took place in Warsaw. The music recordings were sent to Great Britain and illegally released as the first album. The band went on tour in 1981 with the British band TV 21 . Further concert tours and recordings were prevented by the imposition of martial law in Poland. Nevertheless, Brygada Krzys (also known as the Black Brigade) managed to record an album in Warsaw . It is the most important recording in the history of Polish rock, the first emergence of punk rock and new wave. The texts - partly in English, partly in Polish - testified to rebellion against the communist regime.

In 1982 the band took part in the film adaptation of Michal Tarkowski's Concert .

In September 1982 the band split up after four farewell concerts in Warsaw. After the breakup, the band members formed various other bands. However, there was a revival in 1989 when they met in Berlin. The first joint appearance did not take place until August 1991 at the Jarocin Festival - with great success - and three months later at the Odjazdy Festival in Katowice .

After 1989 the band was composed as follows: Lipiński, Brylewski, Ireneusz Wereński, drummer Piotr Żyżelewicz, saxophonists Włodzimierz Kiniorski and Aleksander Korecki and Brylewski's wife, singer Vivian Quarcoo.

Following concerts at the   Silmarile Festival in Warsaw, the band performed less often. From 1992 to 1994 she organized concerts under the name Stanik at the Remont Club in Warsaw . In 1994 the band broke up again until another comeback together in 2003. This time, alongside Lipiński and Brylewski, Tomek Szymborski on bass, drummer Filip Gałązka, saxophonist and keyboardist Sergiusz Kisiecki (replaced by Wlodziemierz Kiniorski in 2005 ). They started working on the Black Album project (which included a remix of the first album, among other things ). In the following four years they performed at various festivals and concert events.
