Bubber Johnson

Robert "Bubber" Johnson (* around 1930) is an American singer and pianist who became famous in the 1950s in the genres of doo wop , soul and rhythm and blues .

Johnson recorded a number of songs under his own name in the 1950s, including Confidental , Ding Dang Doo , I Do Love You and I'm Confessin ' for Mercury and King Records ; with Come Home (King 4822) he had a chart success in the United States. Bubber Johnson, who had a certain resemblance to Fats Domino , preferred ballads that he accompanied on the piano. In 1955 he recorded with Lucky Millinder (Goody Good Love) , Earl King and Little Willie John . Jazz musicians such as Hymie Shertzer , Stan Webb , Dick Hyman , Al Caiola , Jack Lesberg , Ruth Berman Harris , Don Abney , Specs Powell , Wendell Marshall , Panama Francis , Teddy Charles , George Kelly , Everett Barksdale , Kenny Burrell , Jimmy played in his studio band Lewis and Carl Pruitt . Johnson also appeared in the television series Goodyear Television Playhouse (1951) and in the feature film Company Red Devils (1952). At the end of the decade he released several albums like Sings Sweet Love Songs and went on tours. The discographer Tom Lord lists Johnson with 20 recording sessions between 1951 and 1959. With the rise of rock 'n' roll , its success waned and fell into disuse.
