Carl Pruitt

Charles "Carl" Pruitt (born June 3, 1918 in Birmingham , Alabama , † June 1977 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) was an American rhythm & blues and jazz musician ( double bass , electric bass ).

Pruitt played in the mid-1940s for Cootie Williams , with whom the first recordings were made; u. a. the first recording of 'Round Midnight on August 22, 1944 and early 1945 with Charlie Parker ( Floogie Boo ). In 1945 he toured with the Jeter-Pillars Orchestra as part of the troop support . During the second half of the decade he worked in New York City a. a. in the bands of Roy Eldridge , Lucky Millinder , Bull Moose Jackson , in the 1950s with jazz and R&B musicians Wynonie Harris , Mabel Scott , Arnett Cobb , Mary Lou Williams , Sonny Thompson , Sarah McLawler , Earl Hines , Bill Doggett , Stick McGhee , Sahib Shihab , Big John Greer , Little Willie John , Roland Kirk ( Triple Threat ), Eddie Lockjaw Davis , Harold Shorty Baker and the pianist George Shearing with whom he played at the 1959 Newport Jazz Festival and the Timex All Star Jazz Show occurs.

In the 1960s, Pruitt was still involved in recordings of Della Reese and Ray Nance ; with Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd he performed at the 1967 Monterey Jazz Festival . He also worked as a studio musician on recordings for The Ink Spots and James Brown . In the field of jazz he was involved in 96 recording sessions between 1944 and 1975, most recently with Sammy Price , Gene “Mighty Flea” Conners and Doc Cheatham on a European tour, during which concert recordings were made in France and Switzerland. In 1972 he had an engagement with Joanne Brackeen in the New York jazz club West Boondock .
