The Lords of Buchenau were a lower aristocratic family that took their name from the eponymous town of Buchenau in what is today the municipality of Dautphetal in Central Hesse . The gender first appears in historiography in a document dated September 11, 1265, in which the brothers Kraft and Peter von Buchenau are named. A document dated July 14, 1307 proves that the Lords of Buchenau were vassals of the Counts of Nassau .

In a genealogical register of the Hohenfels family , a Peter von Buchenau , d. 1367, is mentioned, of whom it is said that he was "Pastor of Hartenrod". In 1370 the knight Kraft von Buchenau donated part of his farm in Hartenrod to the parish of Buchenau . In 1435 Heinrich Czolner and his wife Gertrud sold the Lindengut in Wommelshausen , which they had inherited from the von Buchenau , to Landgrave Ludwig .

According to Landau, the family died out with the death of Kri (e) gs von Buchenau in 1398. The property was transferred to that of the von Linne family.

coat of arms

The coat of arms is similar to that of the related Frey von Dern (differentiated by the star as a symbol ), as well as that of the also related Dugel von Carben : Under a golden shield head , inside a red star on the edge of the shield, in blue three (2: 1) golden grain yolks ; on the helmet with blue and gold covers, two blue buffalo horns with hanging ears.
