The Bay of Sorsogon ( English Sorsogon Bay ) is a large sea bay in the southeast of the island of Luzon , Philippines . It is the easternmost sea bulge of the Sibuyan Sea and is almost completely enclosed by the Bicol Peninsula . It opens to the west to the Ticao Passage . The bay takes up an area of approx. 201 km² and is a rather shallow bay that reaches depths of half a meter to 10 meters; depths of up to 30 meters are measured at the exit to the Ticao Passage. The coastline of the bay is characterized by a mixture of mangrove forests , rocky coasts and sandy beaches. The municipalities of Sorsogon City , Magallanes , Juban , Castilla and Casiguran lie on it .

The bay of Sorsogon is considered to be a rich fishing area in the province of Sorsogon . Investigations by the fishing and provincial authorities in 1995 showed an annual catch of 5,585.62 tons, of which about 5000 families live. The fish stocks in the bay are made up of 56 species of cartilage and bony fish , which are split up into 223 species.

The seabed in the bay consists largely of silt and silt soils, near the coast it changes into sand and coarse-grained sediment soils. The salinity in the bay is described as low because numerous rivers and streams flow into it. The Pocdol Mountains rise in the northwestern hinterland and the Bulusan volcano in the southeastern hinterland .
