Jan Budtz (born April 20, 1979 in Hillerød ) is a Danish football goalkeeper . He was most recently under contract in English professional football at Hartlepool United until 2009 and was then primarily active in the lower classes.

Athletic career

Shortly after his signing from the Danish FC Nordsjælland , the 1.93 meter tall Budtz, whose brother Ole also found his way into professional football, made a spectacular debut with English third division club Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup when he played in a duel on September 21, 2005 against the first division club Manchester City in the 105th minute for the injured Andy Warrington was substituted on. He parried the penalty kicks from Antoine Sibierski and Richard Dunne in the subsequent penalty shoot-out and thus ensured the surprising progress into the next round. However, everyday life quickly followed this early highlight. Although Budtz also came to regular appearances in Football League One at the beginning of the 2005/06 season, a broken hand in January 2006 ensured that he fell behind the hastily bought Alan Blayney . After the start of the 2006/07 season, Budtz was only “third choice” behind Ben Smith and Blayney.

When the second division Wolverhampton Wanderers faced a series of injuries from his goalkeepers, Budtz helped out with the Wolves in January 2007 and had four league matches by the end of April 2007. Shortly after his return to Doncaster, he signed a new contract with third division rivals Hartlepool United . In the first half of the 2007/08 season he consistently defended his regular place, but was then replaced in the last months of the season after a few weak performances by Arran Lee-Barrett and ended up on the reserve team himself. Only after a month-long loan engagement for Oldham Athletic between February and March 2009 - which ended with a 2: 6 defeat against the Milton Keynes Dons and a coach dismissal - Budtz gained permanent match practice and played seven more league games after his return for Hartlepool. Nevertheless, the club management decided to dissolve the contract of the Danish goalkeeper and released him.

On September 16, 2009 Budtz found a new club with Eastwood Town , which was active in the Conference North - one of the two sixth highest English leagues. In March 2010, however, the two parties separated again after "financial disagreements" arose.
