The Buffalo River is a river in the east of the Australian state of Victoria .

It rises on the northern slopes of Mount Selwyn in Alpine National Park , at the confluence of the Buffalo River West Branch and the Buffalo River East Branch . The Buffalo River flows north, flows through Lake Buffalo and passes Mount Buffalo National Park on its west side. At Merriang , west of Myrtleford , it flows into the Ovens River .
