Buffalo Tom is an American alternative rock band. It was founded in 1986 by Bill Janovitz, Tom Maginnis and Chris Colburne in Boston .
With their garage and harsh guitar sound they are next to Dinosaur Jr. a representative of American college rock .
history
The debut album was produced by J. Mascis under the working title "Buffalo Tom", from which the band name is derived and which is why the band was long considered the little brother of Dinosaur Jr. or was called Dinosaur Jr Jr.
Up until 1992 Buffalo Tom could already record various tour successes, including in Europe. With the move from Beggars Banquet Records to RCA and the album "Let Me Come Over", the band's reputation increased in professional circles. Although “Taillights Fade” in particular was repeatedly played as a powerful ballad on various alternative radio stations, the financial success failed to materialize.
The band's most successful record was "Sleepy-Eyed," which was recorded in Dreamland, a converted church in Woodstock . The band's work has been largely idle since the end of the 90s. Occasionally the trio performs at live concerts.
In July 2007, after almost ten years, they released the album "Three Easy Pieces". Much of what characterizes this band has been summarized in this album.
They appeared in the 12th episode of the series Willkommen im Leben , in which they gave a concert and in which their song Late at Night serves as the soundtrack in the final scene.
