The Bugatti Type 35 "Grand Prix" is a sports car from the second half of the 1920s that was developed by the French car manufacturer Bugatti . With more than two thousand wins in the competition, including five successes on the Targa Florio , it is one of the most famous Bugattis. The birth of the Bugatti "Thoroughbred" myth goes back to this time.
The Type 35, which was designed in the Bugatti workshops of Molsheim - Dorlisheim in Alsace from 1924 , went through many mechanical developments, especially on its eight-cylinder engine in the series, which resulted in different versions: Type 35, 35A, 35C, 35T, 35B , 37, 37, 37A, 39 and 39A. The Type 35 is considered to be the source of important technical innovations in the automobile. Until 1930 almost 640 units were built.
Although not particularly powerful, developing its various engines between 60 and 140 hp , the Type 35 managed to maintain its pace in the Grand Prix for almost a decade, largely thanks to its healthy road handling and reliability. In the early 1930s, however, it gave way to the sports cars of the Italian manufacturers Alfa Romeo and the German Mercedes-Benz , which among other things enjoyed the support of the governments of their respective countries.
