Gaj ( German  (Passenheimer) Stadtförsterei ) is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the Gmina Pasym (urban and rural municipality Passenheim ) in the Powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ).

geography

Gaj is located on the northwest bank of the Great Kalbensee ( Jezioro Kalwa in Polish ) in the southern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , 18 kilometers northwest of the district town of Szczytno ( Ortelsburg in German ).

In the place of today's forest settlement (Polish: Osada Leśna ), the city forester's office of Passenheim (Polish: Pasym ), officially called Passenheim city forester's office , was located before 1945 . With its 5 inhabitants (in the 1905 census year) it was a place to live in the town of Passenheim in the East Prussian district of Ortelsburg . Today a small settlement has arisen here, which is integrated as a partially independent village into the urban and rural municipality of Pasym in the Powiat Szczycieński .

Ecclesiastically, the city forester's office belonged to the city of Passenheim until 1945, both on the Protestant and Catholic sides. The same goes for the Osada leśna Gaj today.

traffic

Gaj can be reached on a side road that branches off from DK 53 (former German Reichsstraße 134 ) at Pasym and leads directly to Gaj via Rudziska Pasymskie (Waldheim) . The nearest train station is Pasym on the Olsztyn – Ełk railway line .
