Dźwiersztyny ( German  Schwirgstein ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Pasym (urban and rural community Passenheim ) in the Powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ).

Geographical location

Dźwiersztyny is located in the southern center of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship , 13 kilometers west of the district town of Szczytno ( German  Ortelsburg ).

However, the founding date of Dźwiersztyny not be determined, the year of first mention is known: 1414. In 1429 renewed Grand Master Paul von Russdorf the Tangible to residents in the former Schwyrgsten . And from March 13, 1774, a renewal hand-held that Grand Master Heinrich Reffle von Richtenberg exhibited.

In 1874 Schwirgstein was incorporated into the newly established district of Nareythen ( Narajty in Polish ) in the East Prussian district of Ortelsburg , to which the village belonged until 1945. In 1910 there were 258 residents registered in Schwirgstein. Their number was 271 in 1933 and 251 in 1939.

As a result of the war, Schwirgstein became part of Poland in 1945 with the entire southern East Prussia . The village was given the Polish name form "Dźwiersztyny" and is today with the seat of a Schulzenamt (Polish Sołectwo ) a place in the network of the urban and rural community Pasym (Passenheim) in the powiat Szczycieński ( Ortelsburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . In 2011 Dźwiersztyny had 66 inhabitants.

On the evangelical side , Schwirgstein was parish into the church in Passenheim until 1898 , then into the church Neuhof (Neidenburg district) ( Nowy Dwór in Polish ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . On the Catholic side , Schwirgstein belonged to the town of Passenheim in the Diocese of Warmia . Today Dźwiersztyny is incorporated into the Roman Catholic parish Nowy Dwór , which belongs to the Archdiocese of Warmia . On the evangelical side, the village is now part of the church in Pasym within the Masurian diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Schwirgstein formed a school association with the neighboring town of Georgensguth ( Jurgi in Polish ). In 1886 a two-class school was built here. In 1902, however, the association split and Georgensguth received its own school.

traffic

Dźwiersztyny can be reached from the Polish state road 53 (formerly German Reichsstraße 134 ) via side roads from Pasym (Passenheim) and Grom (Grammen) . Both places are also the closest train stations on the Olsztyn – Ełk railway line .
