Buhl Data Service is an owner-managed GmbH based in Neunkirchen (Siegerland) , production sites in Burbach (Siegerland) and development sites in Hanover , Oldenburg , Konstanz , Mannheim and Bad Kreuznach .

Buhl has been developing and selling software for tax returns , financial management and the control of business processes in smaller companies ( SMEs ) since 1986 . Buhl Data Service is also a manufacturer of optical storage media and a supplier to the PC hardware industry ( OEM ). On behalf of Microsoft , the company produces CDs and DVDs with variants of the Microsoft Windows operating system .

Company history

The founder Martin Buhl began producing floppy disks for the French group Rhône-Poulenc in 1984 . A cooperation with the television broadcaster ZDF , for whose program WISO Buhl Data Service produces a series of programs, starting with the tax declaration software "WISO Sparbuch", is essential for the success of the company since the 1990s in the field of financial software .

Buhl presented consolidated financial statements for the 2018 financial year showing sales of around 92 million euros with an annual profit of around 17 million euros. The balance sheet total is EUR 195 million with an equity ratio of 83%. 474 people were employed.

Buhl Data Service employed around 600 people in 2018.

Business model

Buhl Data essentially offers its products as Software as a Service (SaaS). Use and maintenance of the software have been regulated since 2003 in the form of an up-to-dateness guarantee. The up-to-dateness guarantee is a service contract that must be actively concluded by the user. The closing process led to criticism in the press, which prompted Buhl Data to make the contract conclusion more transparent.
