Oberschöneweide industrial railway
The industrial railway Oberschöneweide is a former industrial connecting railway in Berlin . It began at the Niederschöneweide marshalling yard and opened up the Oberschöneweides industrial operations . It was later extended to the Rummelsburg marshalling yard . In Berlin vernacular , the route is known as the "Bullenbahn" . The industrial railway also included the Nalepastraße depot , which is now used by the Berlin tram . The "Bullenbahn" was operated from 1890 to 1996.
history
In 1890 the line was built by the Grundrenten-Gesellschaft. It led from the Niederschöneweide-Johannisthal freight yard over the Stubenrauchbrücke to Wilhelminenhofstrasse. A branch to Tabbertstrasse was also built. After its completion, the line was leased to a haulage company who operated the Oberschöneweide rail freight company with it. He initially used horses and oxen as draft animals, hence the name "bull train". Other sources say that the heavy freight locomotives were nicknamed Bulle and thus contributed to the nickname.
In 1899, the line was extended over Edisonstrasse and Rummelsburger Landstrasse to the Rummelsburg freight yard. Two years later, the Berlin Ostbahnen bought the line and electrified it. On August 1, 1901, the first electric locomotive, a converted open freight car of the Prussian State Railways, ran .
In 1957 the line was around 13 kilometers long and served 30 factory connections. Twelve years later, in 1969, the route as well as the rolling stock went to VEB Autotrans Berlin. Since the freight railroad massively obstructed automobile and tram traffic in the course of Edisonstrasse, a new line was built by March 1979. This ran from the depot via Nalepastraße and the allotment garden colony Wilhelmstrand to Rummelsburger Straße, where it led into the old route. The old line in Edisonstraße was given up at the same time and the previously single-track tram section was expanded to double-track.
In 1990 the line went to the VEB inland port, later BEHALA , which ceased electrical operation on the line in 1995. The four-year-old Romanian new locomotive was scrapped. Remaining operations were maintained by a road-rail Unimog before the line was finally closed in 1996. In the following years, the route was largely dismantled or built over in the course of road construction. In some places, however, remnants such as tracks on separate track beds or power pylons can still be seen in the street scene.

The traffic on the route took place on its own track body, despite the tram running parallel to it. The freight trains carried were up to 24 wagons (48 axles) and a maximum of 25 km / h. The BVG employee magazine " Die Fahrt " states the following operating benefits for the 1920s:

Rolling stock
On the industrial line Oberschöneweide, in addition to the locomotives (and freight wagons) of the operating company, there were also numerous works vehicles of the neighboring companies. These included the KWO , the BAE , Minol , the TRO .
