Bunagana is a city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo , in North Kivu Province .

location

Bunagana is located in the western part of the Great Rift Valley , roughly halfway between Lake Edward and Lake Kiwu . The place is right on the border with Uganda and near the border with Rwanda

history

In Bunagana, the March 23rd Movement , under Sultani Makenga , had its headquarters here in 2012/13 . The Indian general Chander Prakash , commander of the Mission de l'Organisation des Nations Unies en République Démocratique du Congo , visited the city on May 29, 2012 after fighting between M23 and the Forces Armées de la République Démocratique du Congo . In November 2013, the entire population of the city fled the fighting between the government and rebels.
