history

The law was passed on October 9, 1992 and came into force on July 1, 1993. At the same time, the Ordinance on Copyright and Related Rights (Copyright Ordinance , URV) issued by the Federal Council on April 26, 1993 came into force.

The Copyright Act of 1992 replaced the Federal Act of December 7, 1922 on Copyright in Works of Literature and Art and the Federal Act of September 25, 1940 on the Exploitation of Copyrights .

The first Swiss copyright law came from 1883. Previously, various cantons had resisted regulating intellectual property because the sale of unlicensed works was a profitable business.

On November 22, 2017 , the Federal Council proposed a revision of the law to parliament . The status of the deliberations in the National Council and Council of States on the law can be found in Parliament's Curia Vista business database under 17.069 Federal Council Business - Copyright Act. Change to be tracked.
