The constituency was reorganized after German reunification for the 1990 Bundestag election and given the constituency number 263.

The constituency area remained unchanged until the electoral district was dissolved before the 2002 federal election. It was finally distributed to the newly created constituencies of Wismar - Northwest Mecklenburg - Parchim and Schwerin - Ludwigslust .
