The Bunker Töpferweg is a former air raid shelter in Lübeck-St. Lorenz and is located near the Drägerwerk .

building

It was the only one of a total of 20 tower or high bunkers to be built as a round bunker. Another special feature was the access to the four floors via external stairs, with the top floor being a stacked floor. Oberbaurat Otto Hespeler, as head of the air raid protection department, made several suggestions for the building structure for internal coordination, thereby complying with the wishes of building director Hans Pieper for the air raid protection building to be incorporated into the urban development. The architect Carl Mühlenpfordt was commissioned with the further draft planning .

Cityscape

The bunker is called "Castel Sant'Angelo" in memory of the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome. history

The air raid shelter was built in 1941. With 880 m² of usable space, it was provisionally released in 1942, and family cells were added later. It offered almost 900 shelter places. After the end of the war, demilitarization was required through demolition, which was not carried out. The round bunker Töpferweg was restored with 778 shelter places and served again from 1989 as an air raid shelter to shelter in the event of a disaster . In 2008 the bunker maintenance was discontinued. In accordance with a decree of the Federal Ministry, the bunkers will be deconsolidated again to release them from the civil protection program.

The Lübeck municipal utilities expanded the bunker into an energy bunker .
