The colorful disk neck fast runner ( Stenolophus teutonus ) is a beetle from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae).
features
The beetles are 5.5 to 7 mm long. The head, mesonotum (middle chest) , metanotum (rear chest) and abdomen are black. The pronotum (front chest) and legs are yellow-red. The antennae are black-brown from the 3rd link. The yellow-red elytra have an extensive black spot that extends over the rear three-fifths and extends on the sides to the eighth space. To the front, the spot often extends along the wing-cover seam to the front edge of the wing-cover.
distribution
The colorful high-speed disk neck can be found in large parts of Europe. In the north, the occurrence extends to Great Britain and the south of Scandinavia. In the south, the occurrence extends to North Africa. The species is also represented in the Azores , Madeira and the Canary Islands . In the east, the occurrence extends over Asia Minor , the Middle East and the Caucasus to Central Asia .
Way of life
The beetle species is considered eurytopic and hygrophilous . It prefers riverside, marshland and ruderal areas as well as clay and gravel pits as habitats. The beetles live there in the detritus . The beetles can also be found on wet meadows and on cultivated land. With the disappearance of many wetlands, the population of the beetle species is falling sharply. The adults hibernate. Reproduction takes place in spring.
