Buraq Air ( Arabic طيران البراق, DMG Ṭayarān al-Burāq ) is a Libyan airline based in Tripoli and based at Tripoli Airport .

history

Buraq Air was founded in 2000 and began flight operations in November 2001 with three Boeing 727-200s. In the following years, the fleet was supplemented with used Boeing 737-200, Ilyushin IL-76 and Let-410, before two new Boeing 737-800s were ordered in 2005, which were delivered at the end of 2006. Several older machines were then phased out.

During the Libyan civil war, Buraq Air machines, including a Boeing 737-800, were damaged several times, several employees were killed in an attack on a hotel and flight operations were interrupted several times.

Route network

Buraq Air currently serves various destinations in the Mediterranean region mainly from Tripoli, currently Istanbul , Tunis , Benghazi and Khartoum . There used to be flights to Cairo , Rabat and Antalya , among others .
