Burcot is on the A415, the main Dorchester to Abingdon road .

history

In the 17th century Burcot was an important transshipment point for goods on the Thames. The river was no longer navigable between Oxford and Burcot , so that goods for Oxford had to be unloaded in Burcot and transported on by road. This led to the establishment of the Oxford-Burcot Commission in 1605 to improve navigation on the river.

The poet laureate John Masefield lived in Burcote Brook from 1932 until his death in 1967. The house burned down shortly after his death.
