Breberg nature reserve

The nature reserve Breberg with a size of 33.76  hectares is located southwest of Ostwig in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan.

Area description

The nature reserve is a forest area with rocks up to 6 m high. The subsoil consists of diabase and partly sparganophyll lime . The forest consists of beech and red spruce .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forest area with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
