from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mönchenknapp nature reserve with a size of 20.62  hectares is located south of Berlar in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan.

Area description

The NSG is a forest area with former coppice forest with oak-birch forests with individual beeches . In the NSG there are tunnels and heaps of the former zinc and lead mining.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forest area with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area was designated as a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
