from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Halden near Ramsbeck with a size of 25.17  hectares is located west of Ramsbeck in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. The area has been part of the FFH area Halden near Ramsbeck (DE-4616-301) since 2004 . In addition to the NSG, the FFH area also includes the dump to the east of Ramsbeck. This eastern dump is only part of the Bestwig conservation area .

Area description

The NSG is a dump area with overburden from ore mining in Ramsbeck, which was operated for around 450 years. The dump is partly overgrown and partly free of vegetation. Large lichen lawns have developed on areas free of vegetation , and moss covers can be found in some fallow areas .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the dump area with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
