Langenbergsiepen nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Langenbergsiepen nature reserve with a size of 2.36 hectares is located in the Arnsberg Forest in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. The northern NSG border is the municipality and district border at the same time. The town of Rüthen and the district of Soest are located north of the NSG .

Area description

The NSG is the quarry forest area with the source of the Langenbergsiepen and the stream of the Langenbergsiepen with floodplain up to the municipal boundary. The brooks and their floodplain were designated as NSG. The quarry is an old quarry forest, partly rich in peat moss, with red alder . In addition to alders, red spruce and birch grow along the stream . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the Langenbergsiepen with its broken forest area and its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
