Aschensiepen nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aschensiepen nature reserve with a size of 13.71 hectares is located in the Arnsberg Forest west of Föckinghausen in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. The Eidmecketalsystem nature reserve is only about 700 meters to the north . The Eidmecke flows to the east, while the Aschensiepens stream goes to the southwest. The Siepen is also referred to as Aschersiepen in the maps of the Land Survey Office of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Area description

The NSG is ash sieving with brook, secondary sieving and broken forest areas . In addition to the ash sieve, there are five other sieves in the NSG. The quarry forest is partly peat moss-rich quarry forest with red alder and birch trees . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG. The NSG is surrounded by red spruce forests.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the ash sifting with the quarry forest and stream, including the species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
