Twilmecke / Kalmecke nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Twilmecke / Kalmecke with a size of 10.42  hectares is located north of Brabecke in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. The NSG consists of two areas.

Area description

The NSG consists of two forest areas with the deeply incised spring sieves of the Twilmecke and Kalmecke streams with low rocks. The forest mostly consists of ravine forests with sycamore maple and red beech . Beech forest areas and marginal spruce areas belong to the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forest area with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area was designated as a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
