Fallenstein nature reserve
The Fallenstein nature reserve with a size of 5.26 hectares is located south of Heringhausen in the municipal area of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. The NSG consists of two parts because it is cut roughly in the middle by the L 776.
Area description
The NSG is a wooded area on diabase with numerous rocks. The forest consists mostly of beech and red spruce . There are numerous flat diabase rocks in the southern part of the area.
Protection purpose
The NSG is supposed to protect the forest area with its species inventory.
As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
