Erlenbruch Grenschede nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Erlenbruch Grenschede nature reserve with a size of 1.24 hectares is located in the Arnsberg Forest north of Velmede in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. The NSG is only about 500 meters south of the southeastern edge of the nature reserve Moorbirkenbruch am Gemeinheitskopf (Bestwig) . In contrast to the above-mentioned NSG, the Erlenbruch drains southwards.

Area description

The NSG is a black alder quarry forest at an altitude of around 500 m. A nameless stream rises in the break. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG. The NSG is surrounded by red spruce forest.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the quarry forest with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
