Nature reserve Moorbirkenbruch on the Gemeinheitskopf (Bestwig)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Moorbirkenbruch am Gemeinheitskopf with a size of 3.7 hectares is located in the Arnsberg Forest in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. In the urban area of Meschede lies the nature reserve of the same name , which is practically divided in the middle by the municipal border.

Area description

The NSG is a moor birch break . On the site of a felled red spruce forest , a black alder population has developed through natural succession . There are large areas with peat moss in the NSG . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG should protect the break with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
