The nature reserve Schlebornbach / Düstere Siepen with a size of 18.52 hectares is located in the Arnsberg Forest north of Nuttlar in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. The NSG includes the brooks Schlebornbach and Düstere Siepen with their floodplain. To the east of the Schlebornbachtal in the urban area of Olsberg borders the nature reserve Tief Hohl - Kottensiepen (Olsberg) . The source of the Schlebornbach is located there. To the west of the NSG, two parts of the landscape protection area of the Schlebornbach valley system join. After about 100 m along the Eidmecke stream in the nature reserve Talsystem des Schlebornbach comes the nature reserve Eidmeckalsystem . The Eidmecke flows into the Schlebornbach on the southwestern edge of the NSG.

Area description

The NSG is the Schlebornbach and Düstere Siepen with Aue. The floodplain is mainly occupied by grassland. Parts of the grassland in the NSG fell fallow. Part of the grassland is wet grassland. Red alder mainly grows along the streams . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG should protect the brooks with floodplains and their species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
