Quincy Obinna Amarikwa (born October 29, 1987 in Bakersfield ) is an American football player who is mostly used as a striker .

Career

Youth and amateur football

Amarikwa grew up in Bakersfield and went to Liberty High School there. After graduating there, he went to the University of California and played for his university's soccer team. He was part of the team that reached the second round of the NCAA college championship for the first time in the history of the University of California in 2008.

He also played in the Premier Development League for Bakersfield Brigade while in college .

Club career

Amarikwa was chosen on January 15, 2009 as the second pick in the third round (32nd overall) in the MLS SuperDraft 2009 by the San José Earthquakes . There he made his professional debut in Major League Soccer on March 21, 2009 against New England Revolution . He scored his first goal on October 7, 2009 in the game against FC Dallas .

On April 7, 2010 Amarikwa was transferred to the Colorado Rapids against a second round pick in the MLS SuperDraft 2012 . There he completed 31 games and won the MLS Cup in his first season with the Rapids .

On June 28, 2012, he was released from the Colorado Rapids and his transfer rights transferred to the New York Red Bulls . After he failed to impress in two weeks of training with the Red Bulls, he was for a conditional draft pick to the Toronto FC transferred. There he was able to score his first goal in the World Football Challenge against Liverpool FC . He made his MLS debut for Toronto on July 28, 2012 in the 2-0 loss to Houston Dynamo . On February 27, 2013, Amarikwa moved to Chicago Fire in exchange for a draft pick in the 2014 MLS Supplemental Draft .

After a year and a half he moved back to San José Earthquakes in exchange for Ty Harden . On his second debut for the Earthquakes, he scored two goals in four minutes against the Los Angeles Galaxy . In the same game, Steven Gerrard made his MLS debut for Los Angeles.
