Štrálek Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Castle Štrálek (also Strolek, German Stralek , originally Burg Strahleneck ) is a castle ruin in the area of the municipality of Jiříkov in Moravian-Silesia , Czech Republic .

Štrálek was on a long, narrow ledge of the Zímecký Kopec above the valley of the Strálecký potok , a tributary to the Oslava , three kilometers south of Rýmařov . Today this place is also known as the "abandoned castle" (Pustý zámek) . The castle was fortified with a mighty earth wall, deep moats and thick walls.

The castle was first mentioned in 1282 as the property of Benesch, a nobleman from the Beneschau family . He and his descendants used the name de Stralek . But the rule was not economically lucrative. Zbyniek and Dobesch de Stralek first sold the associated villages and finally the castle itself in 1349, in order to settle in the area of Přerov on Všechovice , Burgstätt and Šišma . Drslav de Stralek bought himself in 1373 as a feudal man from the Olomouc bishop.

The castle went to Margrave Johann in 1352 , who added it to his rule Rabenstein . But his hope for rich silver deposits near Štrálek was not fulfilled. The castle was abandoned and eventually burned down. In 1765 the stones of the castle were removed as building material for town houses in Rýmařov.
