The castle Althaldensleben is an Outbound castle in Haldenslebener district Althaldensleben in the district Borde in Saxony-Anhalt . Only walls and moats have been preserved from the castle, which is registered as a ground monument .
location
The castle complex is located west of the local area of Althaldensleben, at the northeast end of the Althaldensleben-Hundisburg landscape park . The Althaldensleben monastery is located immediately southeast of the castle .
Plant and history
The castle probably existed as early as the 10th century. The Counts of Haldensleben lived in the castle until 1137. The castle also included several castles in the area, including the marsh castle Haldensleben , which was located in the area of the east end of today's Burgstrasse in the inner city of Haldensleber, the Ottonenburg , the Schalkenburg and the Niendorf castle .
The later German Emperor Lothar von Süpplingenburg lived at times as a squire in the castle. Through the marriage of his daughter Gertrud von Sachsen to Heinrich the Proud , the castle came to the Guelphs . Heinrich the Lion had the castle expanded with a view to the city of Magdeburg . The castle was considerable for its time. In the dispute between Archbishop Wichmann and Heinrich the Lion, the castle was destroyed in 1167 and was not rebuilt afterwards.
The castle area was included in the creation of the landscape park at the beginning of the 19th century. Some artificial ruins were also created in the area. Stones from barrows were used as building material . The south and east sides of the complex are now built over with private houses.
