Bellamont Castle

The castle Bellamont is an Outbound castle in Bella Mont , in the municipality of Steinhausen an der Rottum , in the district of Biberach in Upper Swabia .

location

The castle is located at around 690 meters above sea level in the local area next to the church of St. Blasius von Bellamont, around 7.5 kilometers southwest of Ochsenhausen and around 7 kilometers northwest of the Tristolzer Berg . It is largely surrounded by the Bellamonter Rottum , which merges in Rottum with the Steinhauser Rottum to form the Rottum and is part of the Danube river system.

history

The castle was probably built in the 13th century by the Lords of Bellamont, mentioned in 1216 and demolished in 1719 to build a church. The first owner of the castle was the House of Habsburg . This was followed by the Lords of Stein, the Lords of Neidegg and the monastery and later imperial abbey of Ochsenhausen . Nothing has survived from the castle, which was only a weakly reinforced stone house.
