The castle Blankena (also: castrum blankena ) was a medieval castle in eastern Westphalia frets , which is only available as a floor monument.
Its exact location is unknown, but it is assumed to be north of the Else between Ahle and Werfen . Blankena Castle possibly dates back to the 12th century and could have stood on a hill ( Motte ) , probably surrounded by a moat .
In 2008 Frank Siegmund from the University of Basel undertook the experiment together with an employee of the regional association Westphalia-Lippe . locate the remains of the castle with a magnetometer . The search location in the Blankena area was restricted on the basis of old maps. These maps show the likely foundations of the castle. The results of this investigation have not yet been published.
