The castle Blankenburg is a ruined castle on Haussee at the national road 198 in Wolfhagen on the border between Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern .
history
The Niederungsburg , built by the von Raben family on an island in the Hausee around 1250 , was one of the most important Brandenburg fortifications during the border conflicts between Brandenburg, Mecklenburg and Pomerania because of its location on the border . It is documented as early as 1392 that the Lords of Blankenburg were committed to the Margraves of Brandenburg as their liege lords . By feuds and robber baron mischief the Blankenburger 1456 failed the Elector Friedrich II. Of Brandenburg in disgrace , who had conquered the castle Blankenburg. It was only because of the intercession of their friends that the Lords of Blankenburg received the fiefdom of their castle again from the elector, in exchange for the promise to stay with Brandenburg forever . During the Thirty Years' War the Blankenburg was destroyed and remained in ruins. In the recent past, the castle wall has been renovated and the moat has been deepened so that it constantly carries water again.
