The castle fortress is the late medieval castle rest of Wasserburg in Boll , a suburb of the municipality Sauldorf in the district of Sigmaringen in Baden-Württemberg , Germany .
location
The remains of the former Niederungsburg are located around 100 meters north of the Catholic Church, today's Schwanen Inn . Not far from there is the confluence of the Krummbach and Espenbach rivers. The Krummbach flows north of the inn, coming from the west, further east; the Espenbach east from south to north. Both unite in the so-called "Unterdorf".
history
The castle was first mentioned in 1412. It was owned by the noble family "vonn Howdorff" ("von Heudorf" first mentioned: 1261). In 1436 the brothers Pilgrin, Caspar, Albrecht and Ortholf von Heudorf are named as the owners of the knighthood of Boll, in 1444 an Albert von Heudorf , in 1446 Albrecht and Ortholf von Heudorf, brothers to brothers zu Waldsberg, and on November 4, 1454 their brother, knight Caspar von Heudorf, who sat at Boll, was named as the seller of Göggingen to Junker Werner von Zimmer , Baron of Messkirch . In 1693, the knights of the von Heudorf family sold Boll to the Fürstenberg family, whose noble branch, the Counts of Fürstenberg-Meßkirch , owned the castle.
With the fall of the rulership of Meßkirch , called "Grafschaft" after 1538, at Baden in 1806, Boll became part of the district of Meßkirch , Konstanz district, in the Constance regional commissioner in the Grand Duchy of Baden .
In 1871 the building was sold in private ownership. Since then the Gasthaus Schwanen has been owned by a single family and, in addition to the catering trade, was mainly used as an economic building.
Todays use
Agriculture stopped several years ago. Since then the building has served as a pub.

Remains of the chapel in the wall between the barn and the pub |
The original complex was probably a three-story, simple box-type structure that was protected by a moat in front of it .
Only the remnants built into today's masonry in the economic part have been preserved. There, walled-in recesses and arches suggest a chapel .
Investigations of the remaining original building structure by the State Monuments Office of Baden-Württemberg did not provide any further information about the original appearance of the complex. Precise construction sections are therefore difficult to pin down.
