The Krummbach is a brook in the Baden-Württemberg districts of Konstanz , Tuttlingen and, most recently, Sigmaringen , which flows into the upper Ablach from the left after a nearly 15 km long north-east run at the village of Unterbichtlingen in the municipality of Sauldorf .

geography

course

The Krummbach rises in the southern part of the Wilde Hölle of the Schindelwald north-east of the Krätlemühle near the Eigeltingen village of Heudorf at about 686  m above sea level. NHN in swampy terrain and initially flows briefly southeast, but still turns left in the forest and then pulls north to northeast at the edge of the forest, past the village of Gallmannsweil on the right upper slope.

Then she moves to the community of Neuhausen ob Eck in the Tuttlingen district . After flowing through the Neuhausen hamlets of Hattelmühle and Holzach , it receives a tributary from the Wettbach on the left and is then below Volkertsweiler on a short stretch of the district boundary to the Sigmaringen district before it crosses completely into it.

Further larger places on the now north-eastern course are the Sauldorf districts of Boll and Krumbach , where the Rosenbach coming from the north joins from the left . In an easterly direction it then flows parallel to federal highway 313 through a forest area. After the cultural monument Schloßbühl on the right slope, it branches off to the right an engine canal that runs back at the first houses in the village of Unterbichtlingen , shortly before it reaches the northern edge of the village from the left at 608  m above sea level. NHN and flows into the Ablach after a 14.7 kilometer run .

Catchment area

The Krummbach has a catchment area of 66.1 km², which roughly shows the shape of a parallelogram with a longer diagonal of about 15.5 km from the western tip at Wehstetten (municipality of Emmingen-Liptingen ) to the confluence at Unterbichtlingen. The shorter one spans approximately from the arch of the uppermost course before Gallmannsweil north-northeast to the northern tip near Buchheim and is about eleven kilometers long. Here is also the one with a little over 800  m above sea level. NHN at the Langer Hans observation tower on the southern edge of Buchheim, the highest point in the catchment area. In it the small river usually runs quite close to the right watershed and the majority of the catchment area is to the left of it, with large areas in the northwest without an above-ground watercourse, which are, however, reliefed by dry valleys.

The northeastern watershed runs in front of the catchment area of the next left Ablach tributary Grabenbach , which first competes directly and then via its right tributary Mettenbach . The southeastern one separates the Ablach from the nearby drainage area and only two smaller upstream tributaries from it. On the somewhat jagged south side, the border is part of the European main watershed between the Danube on this side and the Stockacher Aach , which drains over Lake Constance into the Rhine behind it and which reaches the lake in the northwest bay of the Überlinger See, and finally briefly also the Wasserburger Talbach , the ultimately flows over the Radolfzeller Aach into the other west bay of the Zeller See. The short western catchment area border and then the north-western catchment area border are getting closer and closer to the Danube, which is why behind it, apart from the Seltenbach which flows out at Tuttlingen, only shorter streams flow to this river.

The Krummbach is 14.7 km long and drains a catchment area of 66.1 km², to which its two large left tributaries, Wettbach and Rosenbach, each contribute around a quarter.

Natural spaces and geology

Two natural areas have a share in the catchment area . Almost a third of the area in the northwest belongs to the karstified Hegaualb , in which there are therefore hardly any surface watercourses. The remaining slightly more than two thirds in the southeast are part of the Danube-Ablach plates and thus the old moraine area formed during the Riss glaciation . In the direction west-north-west-east-south-east, roughly between Schwandorf and Boll on the course of the Wettbach valley , a molasse basin is inserted into the rift-era sediments. The valley axis of the Krummbach itself mostly follows a proven fault line approximately perpendicular to it.
