The Burglengenfeld is the ruin of a Spur castle 2400 meters southwest of the Church of Hausen in the valley , in the municipality of Beuron in the district of Sigmaringen in Baden-Württemberg .
Geographical location
The ruins of the castle are on a steep cliff at 770 m above sea level. NN , about 175 meters above the Danube and directly opposite Werenwag Castle .
history
Nothing is known about the castle, which was built in the 12th century. A connection with the town of Lengenfeld , lying south on the Alb plateau, is assumed. Only a few remains of the wall of the former castle have been preserved.
description
An upstream rock ditch separates the former castle area from the plateau. Behind it follows a smaller area, as a possible location for a bailey . The very small core castle , with an area of approx. 16 × 16 meters, is shielded by another, not very wide and long neck ditch . The small remains of the wall within the main castle suggest a residential tower-like building ( donjon ) - wall thicknesses of up to 1.50 m - and a gate. Small ashlar masonry predominates, larger ashlars can be found in the northwest corner that can be seen from the valley. A rounded corner cuboid (70 × 33 × 40 centimeters) in the northwest corner of the donjon is remarkable.
Since farm buildings are unlikely to be located on the narrow rock ridge that slopes down towards the edge of the valley, these could be located on the plateau that fans out in front of the castle rock.
