The Castle Neuenstein is the ruins of a hilltop castle on a 440  m above sea level. NN high foothills of the Kleiner Schärtenkopf southwest of Hubacker, a district of the Lautenbach community , in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was built by the Counts of Freiburg around 1322 and destroyed in 1609. The other owners were the Herren von Neuenstein. Only a few remains of the wall of the castle can be seen. In tradition there is also talk of another castle with this name, this Alt-Neuenstein castle could have stood on the right of the Rench above the town of Hubacker. It was probably the ancestral castle of the Lords of Neuenstein, who were first mentioned in 1123. In 1405 a castle stable was named for the old Neuenstein .
