Pfarrköpfchen Castle

The Pfarrköpfchen Castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle on the "Pfarrköpfchen" on the eastern edge of the Soonwald near Stromberg in the Hunsrück in the Bad Kreuznach district .

history

The Pfarrköpfchen Castle is probably the "old Stromburg". All documentary mentions from the 11th and 12th centuries refer to this complex. The castle was given up around 1200 and the new Stromburg was built as its successor. The castle was finally destroyed by limestone mining in the 19th century.

investment

After archaeological excavations and preserved foundation walls, it must have been a very extensive castle complex for this time. Remains of a Romanesque four-column double chapel have been found. The mosaic floor of the magnificent chapel is now in the "Stromberger Heimatmuseum".
