history

Plohn Castle

In 1279 the medieval castle was mentioned as the manor of the brothers Heinrich and Otto von Plohn. In the 13th century it was owned by the bailiffs von Plauen and in 1441 it passed to Hans Metzsch , under whom it was mentioned as a castle in 1445. In 1633 the castle was destroyed by the troops of General Heinrich von Holk during the Thirty Years' War and then rebuilt. In 1804 the castle was demolished and a mansion was built in its place . In 1972 the walls and cellar vaults that were still preserved were restored.

The manor Plohn upper and lower part

The sons of Metzsch divided the manor among themselves in 1534 . Since 1577, two manors were recorded, which in 1875 were called the upper and lower manor and were located on the site of the castle ruins. The lower part of the manor was sold to Christian Gottlob Adler by Messrs. Metzsch after 1800. Adler ordered the demolition of the castle in 1804 and the construction of the manor house in 1811. In 1820 his brother bought the manor upper part. In 1850 Richard Adler took over both manors. As a result, the Plohnschen manors were united under one owner. The Wunderlich family acquired the manor in 1898.

In the course of the land reform in Germany , the last owner, Gottfried Wunderlich, was expropriated in 1945. In 1972 the remains of the castle complex - walls and the cellar vault - were restored.

Todays use

The restaurant “Zur Alten Brauerei”, in which the well-known Plohner beer brewery brewed in 32 cellars on two floors, is only 500 meters away from today's “ Freizeitpark Plohn ” in a preserved wing of the manor house . The former manor is also used by an equestrian club. The manor of the manor is used as a residential building.
