The Puchart Castle , also known as Hrad Potštát ( Feste Puchard ), Zighart, Pustý zámek ( Desert Castle ), Sudetský zámek ( Sudetenburg ), is located above the Velička valley near Boňkov in the Olšovec municipality south of Potštát in the Olomoucký kraj , Moravia , Czech Republic .
history
The exact time when the castle was founded is not known. It was probably created in connection with the colonization of the area in the 13th / 14th centuries. Century. In 1241 the castle was allegedly devastated by Tatars or in 1252/53 by Cumans . The castle is mentioned for the first time in a document in 1318 as the property of Záviš von Potštát, who in 1322 also owned Potštát . The castle was destroyed either during the occupation of Potštát by Margrave Prokop of Moravia in 1394 or by Matthias Corvinus during the Hungarian-Bohemian War in 1475 .
The castle complex consisted of the front and the rear castle ( přední hrad, zadní hrad ), which are about 150 meters apart. Today there is an excursion restaurant ( pohostinství U tlustého Jana ) on the site itself . The name refers to a previous landlord who is said to have been so stout that he needed a special chair from which he could only get up with the help of a pulley. Legends of robber knights and treasures also surround the ruins .
The Puchard / Potštát castle ruins should not be confused with the Potštát Castle, located about 6 kilometers to the north, which was built in Potštát in the 17th century as a result of the renovation of a fortress and is in a ruinous state of construction.
