The castle was built in the 13th century by Zdeslav von Sternberg . Georg / Jiří von Krawarn and Straßnitz († 1466) repaired the damage that occurred during the Hussite Wars . Further renovations were carried out in the 16th century by the Berka von Dubá . Even after the Thirty Years' War , the castle, which was acquired by Johann Adam Andreas von Liechtenstein around 1695 , was repaired. The castle remained with his descendants until it was expropriated in 1945. Under Prince Johann II of Liechtenstein , the Viennese architect Carl Gangolf Kayser rebuilt it in the style of historicism in 1886 . The parks and gardens were redesigned between 1907 and 1909 by the Viennese garden architect Albert Esch .
