Location of the Okres Olomouc

The Okres Olomouc (German Olomouc District ) is a regional authority in the Olomoucký kraj in the Czech Republic . The Okresy were roughly comparable with the districts in Germany, the district administrations were dissolved on December 31, 2002 .

The largest district of the district is located in the north of Moravia and includes the area north of the city of Olomouc as well as parts of the Oder Mountains and the Hornomoravský úval plain, through which the March River flows with its tributaries.

234,939 people (as of January 1, 2019) live in 98 communities (Obec) with 232 districts and 363 basic housing units on an area of ​​1,620 km². 55 percent of the area can be used for agriculture, 27 percent is forested.

On January 1, 2005, the districts Huzová , Moravský Beroun and Norberčany , which previously belonged to the Okres Bruntál , were assigned.

In January 2016, as part of the downsizing of the Libavá military training area, the municipalities of Kozlov , Město Libavá and Luboměř pod Strážnou were created , the latter being spun off into Okres Přerov .

Attractions

Olomouc is an important tourist region with many castles, palaces, cathedrals, churches, museums and galleries. The main role is played by the district town with a number of Romanesque , Gothic and Baroque monuments (market fountain, Palace of the Přemyslids , Archbishop's Seat , Cathedral of St. Mauritius with the largest organ in Europe, the monastery complex Klášterní Hradisko , the pillar of the Supreme Trinity, which since 2000 on the world heritage of UNESCO is one).
