Babice (German Babitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located three kilometers northwest of Šternberk and belongs to the Okres Olomouc .

geography

Babice is located at the transition from Hanna to Lower Jeseníky at Babický potok. The hill Kamínka (329 m) rises to the northeast.

Neighboring towns are Krakořice in the north, Hlásnice in the northeast, Šternberk in the southeast, Lužice in the south, Hnojice in the southwest, Žerotín and Strukov in the west and Dolní Mladějovice and Mladějovice in the northwest.

history

Babice was first mentioned in writing in 1228 and belonged to the Šternberk domain. The existence of a parish church has been documented since 1339. After the death of Peter von Krawarn , his widow Anna Babice donated to the monastery of the Augustinian Canons in Šternberk in 1405 together with several neighboring villages . The Augustinians also took over the patronage of the parish church in 1474. In 1480 the monastery acquired the Žerotín manor and made it the administrative seat to which Babice was also assigned until 1784.

During the Thirty Years' War in 1624 the parish in Babice went extinct. During this time the Germanization of the village began. In 1737 the monastery brewery was relocated to Babice, which had developed into a center of the Sternberg region. There were three inns in the village. In the course of the Josephine reforms , the monastery was dissolved in 1784 and Babice came under the administration of the Religious Fund. After the Babitzer Hof, located southwest of the village, had been parceled out and sold to German settlers, the Hermanetz (Heřmanec) settlement was built in its place in 1786. This was later renamed Egersdorf (Egrov). The church was renovated in the 18th century as a branch church of the Sternberg parish church.

After the abolition of patrimonial Babitz became an independent municipality in the Sternberg district in 1850, which included the Egersdorf district and the Filzlaus inn.

In 1958, the dean Pospíšil found a small relic of the Madonna from the 14th century in the chapel, which probably comes from the Augustinian monastery. Today it is housed in the Šternberk Castle.

The former district of Egrov has grown into one unit with Babice.
