The village Bistrouuan , which belongs to the estates of the Premonstratensian monastery Hradisko , was first mentioned in a document in 1277 in the course of a dispute with the Velehrad monastery over four hubs of arable land on the border with Chválkovice. This was settled in court and both Bistrouuan and the Velehrad monastery village Chválkovice were each awarded two strokes . The place name Bystrovany can be traced back to 1437. In 1473, the anti-king Matthias Corvinus withdrew the village from the monastery and transferred it to the city of Olomouc . This resulted in a protracted dispute between the monastery and the Olomouc council over property rights. In 1531 it was finally settled by the council with a payment of 200 shock groschen to the monastery. Other forms of name were from 1511 bistrowan , from 1656 Bystrowan and 1771 Klein Wysternitz and Bistrovanium . Bystrovany was the seat of a free hereditary bailiff . After the Vogtshof 1535 with the death of the childless Jiří HESKA in escheat was advised of the Olomouc Council used it to abolish the freedoms and ordered henceforth Setzvögte . In 1635 the village consisted of two farmers, 13 half-hoppers and two quarter-hoppers. The registers have been kept in Velká Bystřice since 1651 . In 1835 the village consisted of 49 houses. Bystrovany always remained an Olomouc council village until the middle of the 19th century.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Bystrovany / Bistrowan 1850 a municipality in the district administration Olomouc. In 1870 376 people lived in the place. In the same year the construction of the railway line from Olomouc to Jägerndorf began . Bystrovany was given a train station, where the first train arrived on October 1, 1872. In 1889 Moritz Fischer from Olomouc built a brick factory in Bystrovany. A little later, the joint stock company Mačák a spol. another brickyard. The Fischersche Ziegelei was bought by the Prague Creditbank and the company "Durit" was formed. On August 6, 1914, after a downpour at Velká Bystřice, the place was hit by a flood wave from the Bystřice, which caused severe damage, especially in the Zábraní location.

From 1921 the community belonged to the Okres Olomouc-venkov. In 1927 the company "Durit" built a steam sawmill. Mačák AG went bankrupt during the 1930s as a result of the global economic crisis. During this time the Bystřice was regulated between Velká Bystřice up to the mouth. During the Second World War, both brickworks were destroyed in a bombardment and never rebuilt. In 1950 the community came to Okres Olomouc-okolí and since its abolition in 1961 it has belonged to Okres Olomouc. In 1975 Bystrovany was incorporated into the city of Olomouc. On January 1, 1993, Bystrovany broke away and formed its own community.
